Sigh. I was a Broadway fan at seven. I don't mean that I actually saw the shows in NY, but my folks did every year and I grew up listening to the soundtracks. Since then, I've had the opportunity to see sublime Broadway productions and duds. I saw Ragtime in Toronto when it was preparing for Broadway and got blown away by the sheer talent assembled under one roof.

So, first off, people who live in Topeka or Nome or Minneapolis do travel and may get to NY, but even if they don't, that doesn't mean they can't be Broadway theater nerds.

If you're a fan who can't get to the theater for whatever reason (cost, location, scheduling), but you listen to the soundtracks,or check out performances on youtube, or savor the Tonys, or catch some of the PBS Great Performances recordings (and btw, they didn't care if they recorded Broadway or the Paper Mill Playhouse), yes, you can be a Broadway Theater nerd.

...And if you disagree with me, please do it quietly. I'm trying to listen to Seussical, here.
