I dunno, for me it wasn't the plot that drew me in but rather the themes the plot was bringing out. By the end of the first act I was so hopped up on JUSTICE! MERCY! SACRIFICE! THE ESSENTIAL DIGNITY OF THE HUMAN SOUL! that when Marius and Cosette and Eponine started doing their thing, I was all "oh fuck really do we have to pause for a romantic subplot here WE KIND OF HAVE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS GOING ON."* The plot itself is a rambling forty-coincidence pileup where one suspects Javert is the only policeman in all of France, but that's okay, it's mostly a pretext for abovementioned capslocking anyway.

* Or in other words, this cartoon. GIANT FURNITURE WALL.

I agree with your caplocking so hard! :D But yes, like I said, the plot was basically a vehicle, not really enough to judge the movie on.
