I grew up in America, but I'm hostile to a lot of elements of American culture, and I welcome anyone else's aid in expressing that hostility, no matter where they come from. I think it works the same in expressing hostility to twisted elements of any culture. Sick and wrong is sick and wrong no matter where you are.

general Catholic guilt in my case.

Re: New Year's Resolutions!

I'm just going to repost what I wrote on other social networking sites because I'm lazy

My New Year's resolution from last year was to "be happy", LOL. This year I think my New Year's resolution is to move beyond self-awareness into actual behavior and thought modification. This is going to be very difficult... also as always, to finish a comic. I'm trying to focus on getting a minicomic done, surrounding myself with other creative people (I know quite a few but I just get so intimidated...)

Even though 2012 was a pretty good year for me (real job finally yay) I still feel unfulfilled in so many ways and I think I get this feeling every year around this time… like there is so much I still want for myself but I can’t even identify what exactly those things are

It’s like no matter how much stuff I have, how much money I have, how nice of a place I live in, how many people love me it is still never enough for me to be happy

What's wrong with masturbating?

You do realize it's already 2013 for like half the planet, right? Late in the afternoon even in some places.

Are you familiar with the concept of a joke? More than half the planet has heard of it.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-01 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
this isn't lee pace, this is a character lee pace plays.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-01 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
This is what bugs me the most about them. I can deal with them basically being "look at these stupid foreigners let's all laugh at them," but if you're going to do that, at least get the stereotypes right, damnit!

(Anonymous) 2013-01-01 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Benedict Cumberbatch isn't blond. He's a ginger.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-01 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, Thranduil's is my favorite Tolkien character and it's nice to see him getting some love after all the abuse he got when the LOTR movies first came out.

On the other hand, I'm not looking forward to the craziness that tends to surround popular characters.

OP

I avoided giving specific examples because it's usually not phrased as bluntly as I put it in the secret--it's more of an underlying assumption that gradually becomes apparent if you're exposed to it enough. In addition, even works that contain a lot of it may also have exceptions. (For instance, Persona 4 has way too many subplots in which someone who's discontent with his or her lot in life eventually realizes that he or she likes the way things are after all, but it also includes the character of Kanji, who becomes comfortable in an identity that doesn't match society's expectations.)

Joke detector is faulty apparently....

(Anonymous) 2013-01-01 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, the only thing that comes to mind is Pat Benatar, but I doubt that's the song you meant. Who's the artist for this supposed to be?

OP confession

(Anonymous) 2013-01-01 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I made this five years ago, I posted it out of curiosity for the convo that would come out of it (because I like reading the conversations ) and because it was half true.

I'm sorry.

that said my priorities have changed and the more I've worked on this the more it's become,"just get my work out there so I can leave something behind." (yeah I know it's unlikely to get a fandom, but hope helps make ya feel good).

I didn't mean to say so much that fandom was the only reason, more that since I will have a day job to get money from, I would honestly find fanfiction more enjoyable and special. Cause money, eh, you get it form every job. Fanfiction would make me feel like I really made it big time. Place on a bestseller list, eh alright, but you can still have things on the New York Times Bestseller list that no one still has seemed to know about. (Children of The Red King series? Hardly anyone I've told about it has ever heard of it, and it was on the list)

I would get genuine enjoyment out of fanfiction. Bad, good, don't matter to me.

Sorry if it came off very "I KNOW I'm going to get fanfiction" It was meant more "I REALLY hope I get some and I will damn sure enjoy it."

YES FINALLY SOMEBODY WHO AGREES. I can't stand her and everybody I know can't stop gushing over how awesome and amazing and perfect and wonderful she is, and I wonder if we're talking about the same character.

I feel you so hard. Seeing family is nice... but my mom has started to nag and whine about how I need to engaaaaaage people. (Read: I should be a social butterfly and spend all my time around other people and talk to them nonstop because apparently that is the only polite thing to do with extended family. Ahahahahahahahaha no.) Three more days of her attempting to turn me into an extrovert is a terrible prospect, even with the rest of my awesome family thrown into the deal.

The lol America shit in The Sound of Drums was great. My favorite was the college students or whoever they were supposed to be tuning into a 2 AM live broadcast all decked out in their letter jackets. Like you do.

And Trinity Wells! It's not officially an international incident on Doctor Who until she shows up to report on it.

I cross stitch. :) I have a program that I use to convert images from my favorite shows/movies into cross stitch patterns (for my own personal use.) I finish them and occasionally give them to fellow fans.

I found the pic in a collection of ten similar images. I can't find the collection again for some reason, but they were all titled some variation of "I think there's a spy among us". (And yes, it included the most famous one: http://www.anilolz.com/lols/i-think-theres-a-spy-among-us )
