That explains it, I'm not on Tumblr (so little time...) so I wasn't even aware of how popular Thranduil had gotten. I did a search for Thranduil images when The Hobbit was first announced, saw some on DeviantArt, but nothing like this.

I've come across Elrond fans on LJ, and on other sites, fanfic sites, too. I can't remember what title it was or where it was, but I once came across a fascinating LOTR/STNG crossover with Elrond/Picard- I think it was called "Son of the Stars". Elrond fans are out there, and I know some irl. I agree, Elrond does need some love and shouldn't be forgotten in the current fandom.

If you can, draw from life. Grab a sketch book and go to a place with a lot of people, or if you're like me and too shy to stare at strangers (or you live in an area where that sort of behavior would be unusual), find a free/super cheap figure drawing class. I find that looking at how the human body actually moves and connects to each other helps me a lot. Sometimes with reference, I'll take a webcam video of myself moving into a pose instead of just a photo, since it helps me understand the little things that make the post look correct.

When you're hormonal and someone is sucking vital fluids from your body (or you're being accused of child abuse becayse you're not providing said vital fluids) the last thing you want to hear is "but but but at least society approves of your choice!" I can see where the OP would want to skip that conversation altogether.

okay I have no plans on physically chasing people down. My main problem is that being rude is not just tolerated or ignored, on many spots on the internet it's ENCOURAGED. People being rude are cheered on and supported and told their actions are cool and tough and the people they are being rude to are blamed for their behavior .

Hell on one art site i went to I was a little shocked by the mantra "being bullied? Just deactivate your account". Let's think about that logic. "being harassed by someone? It's YOUR responsibility to leave rather than the admin's responsibility to stop harassment or people who harass people to um I dunno stop fucking harassing people. I don't care that people are rude in all honesty. I just want them to be held accountable for their own behavior and not get away with "i'm rude because i'm on the internet get used to it". I've lived in Japan for three years and the secret is pretty accurate to me, so I'm not sure what your issue is here.

well it is a learning experience and you are far from the only one to submit something like that

if you submit a secret again, aim for legibility in the design, proofread your text and try to cut out excess wording if you can

tips:

make sure there isn't text in the background; the tv tropes page in the background wasn't necessary for your secret to get across and all the text from it competed for attention with your own text

colors: contrast is your friend; if you have dark backgrounds, use the lightest colors for your text, and viceversa

avoid neon or bright colors

there are places to look for legible and clear color combinations if you are interested

align the text in a way that it is easy to read; sure it is tempting to arrange it around your background picture, but if you find yourself having to place your text all over the place, then find a better picture! the picture should serve the secret, not the other way around

use a font size and type that is easy to read, give that priority over the prettiness of the font

save in a format that doesn't blur the text, jpg and jpeg seems to do this, in particular, but not exclusively, with red texts

avoid red text

try to aim for symmetry, in your block(s) of text, both horizontally and vertically, and leave enough space between elements (text, parts of the background picture, borders, etc.), that it looks balanced and pleasant to the eye
