I envy you! I've had my eye on the Pinocchio piece for 4 years now.

To each their own.

Also, I think his paintings work best with a Disney setting. They're pretty Disney-fied (happy sunny [even when there's rain or snow lol] everythings ~swell~) to begin with.

Yep. It's not that much of a stretch that if you like the animated settings of the Disney movies as potential decorations, you'll like Kinkaid's art.

I didn't know such a thing existed before now but that art is gorgeous imo. Definitely don't see why this needs to be a secret. (I know, I know, "Because Thomas Kinkade." Whatever.)

Haha, yeah, that's my reaction. I don't care much for Kinkade (although I don't hate him), but this sort of thing? I can totally see myself having something like this in my home and really enjoying it.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
What's so bad about liking Thomas Kinkade's art, anyway...?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
He was a commercial sell-out who painted only happy things and had the nerve not to suffer for his art.

His work is pretty twee - as some people pointed out upthread, his art always looks like something that belongs in a Disney movie. Also he was apparently kind of a douche.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I see plenty of reasons to hate the man, not the art, even if wallet-voting can tie the two together. It takes a more art-knowledgeable person than I to say what's wrong with the stuff. As for the guy, he's gone the way of the dodo, so find yourself a print if you want and be happy.

Never knew Kinkade did Disney prints. I agree with the above anon, though--his style seems to work better for Disney/fairy tale style art. It feels appropriate.

I didn't know it either, until I saw a calendar of his Disney stuff at the book store a few days ago.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
We also have two in our house and I love getting lost in them <3

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
If I had the monies, I'd have the entire set hanging in walls in my house. As it stands now, I have none...haha. I think I like the Pinocchio one the best, though.

eh, fuck the haters, I love them too. I have been arguing with myself over whether to get that particular print (the Beauty and the Beast one, I mean) as a counted cross-stitch kit for like a year.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I did not know such things existed. It actually looks good (if the image in the secret is a TK image and not fanart).

...I assume this is a secret because you'd get jumped for liking the art because of the hypocrisy issues with its creator?

lol, I think his Disney ones are best and the ones my dad obsesses over are so-so. x3

I know he's done some reeeeally skeevy things, but I still think his Disney stuff is awesome. Only problem is, I have no idea how to balance that. :V (maybe buy them secondhand? but ergh, idk how much people would inflate the prices. :x)

I really want the entire series in cross-stitch, but Kinkaid's stuff is just so freaking expensive.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Welp, you're a sick fuck.

Not hatin' on you, OP, but that painting is really awful, for some reason I can't quite figure out. The perspective? The lighting? The way the characters are shoehorned in? It's almost like what you'd get if Lisa Frank decided to do a B&B fanart, and somebody gave her more than four colors to work with, and she did slightly less acid than usual before starting.

Yes! They are so pretty!

[personal profile] kayleen_san 2013-01-02 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
His Disney art is absolutely beautiful. I dont care for his other stuff...mostly because I feel like its THE SAME DAMN COTTAGE AND VILLAGE OVER AND OVER AGAIN, but I love his Disney stuff.

But I also love a good majority of the fine Disney art <3

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
What is even happening in this picture? The castle is in the background but then they're on the balcony of the castle and then another balcony (or the same one???) is on the left and… This is just confusing.

I am extremely jealous of you. I would wallpaper my entire bedroom in them, if I could.
