I thought it was ok though I don't get the massive love for it.

My favourite scene was the bad guy self help group and I just don't think it got any better from there on out.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't even bother to see it, like I just had no interest whatsoever. Oops.

many people are horrible. Don't think you are alone.

I won't lie, I actually put my hands up as if to shield myself from this secret.

But different strokes. I can certainly see how someone wouldn't like it.

I like it, but I do think Vanellope's story arc was handled a lot better than Ralph's. Ralph started and ended more-or-less the same; I don't think there were ever really problems with his attitude, just those of the characters around him. I don't think his game's citizens ever had to actually confront their bigotry, and even Felix had just the one line with Ralph about being hated every day and BAM! Suddenly their best buddies.

Ultimately, I think my favorite part was the decision to have a bespectacled girl as the one to start up Hero's Duty. I was pleasantly surprised by that.

I almost agree, but I think V's story arc helped Ralph to gain some self acceptance, even if he's not flaunting it at the end.

I do agree that that one line in the Fungeon was a weak bridge.

I almost agree, but I think V's story arc helped Ralph to gain some self acceptance, even if he's not flaunting it at the end.

And I agree with that too, but it was kind of like self-accepting of what? That he's a villain of a game in which the majority of his residents hate him? That he's forced to sleep in the dump alone every night while everyone parties and has fun? The only reason the end was happy was, not because he finally accepted himself, but that the others around him started to accept him too.

It's like the bullying campaigns that focus all on the victim learning to feel better about themselves, while ignoring the actual problem - i.e. the bullies.

Yeah, I didn't like Felix, and that moment of...whatever it was didn't help.

Agreeing with below, though; I think Ralph's interaction with Vanellope was pretty good for his character development. It just wasn't shown particularly well by the end.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Ralph seems more of a decoy protagonist to me. I guess that's why the movie's called Sugar Rush in Japan, since most of the action happened in Vanellope's game.

It's not perfect, but it was endearing and very funny--and that's my opinion. You're entitled to yours.

I felt the same (to a lesser extent) about Rise of the Guardians, so I do understand how you feel. I feel like I'm the only person that didn't walk out of the theater completely in love with it. :\

I was ready to love it until Jack returned from taking the little girl home. Then something just stopped clicking and I spent the rest of the film confused.

I assure you the movie critic for our city's newspaper did not walk out of the theater completely in love with it.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
If you don't like it why is this a 'fandom' secret...

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 04:50 am (UTC)(link)

WIR doesn't have a fandom? Wut?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
You're not. I mean, I personally liked it, but I really, really didn't like Ralph, and there were definitely flaws. Sorry if you're drowning in everyone else's squee. :)

[personal profile] glo_unit 2013-01-02 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't hate it, but I don't have nearly the amount of love for it most people seem to.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
I thought it was slightly terrible.
Ralph was a non-entity and Vanellope was grating.
Aaaaand it also seemed like a giant commercial at times - "Nesquick sands", really?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
It also seemed to be a commercial for video games in general ;)

I'll agree that I had enough small issues with the movie that I came off with a "that was a nice movie" attitude, not a "OMG THIS WAS JESUSFILM" movie that many people seemed to have. I think I just consume movies a bit differently than most of the people who loved it, and that's fine. I don't HATE the movie like the secret says, but I certainly don't love it like a lot of its fandom does. *shrugs*

Yes l agree l thought WIR was riddled with plotholes, dodgy writing and continiuty errors. Plus the "villian" didn't follow the evil is ugly good is pretty. My biggest complaint is none of the film would've happened if the two mains talked it out

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The only thing about this movie I didn't hate was Vanellope.
And only because she looks like a vintage Chipette and I loved the Chipettes (and Chipmunks) when I was a kid ;)

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
i didn't hate it, but it was pretty unremarkable. i thought it was cute and nothing more than that, tbh. I was not impressed and have no desire to see it again. you're not alone!

ONLY FOUR STARS ON IMDB? Far too low. :o

(Then again this is the site that declared Dark Knight Rises the best movie of 2012, which I'm pretty sure they would have done no matter what.)
