Side-issue, but are you sure the fandom isn't anywhere else? If you click back to the main page of AO3 and then check for the fandom in the main archives, are there any non-Yuletide works there? I run a fairly active comm for a Yuletide-sized fandom, and I always spend this time of year a little frustrated at all the people who think that there's no fandom outside of Yuletide when there's so many wonderful non-Yuletide fics out there.

I know for myself (nonsecretop) that my fandoms have one fic. mine.

I've looked. I've searched. There is nothing.

I always wonder what these are. What are these fandoms that are so tiny?!

Books you loved as a kid are pretty rare for fandoms, quite often. Especially non series books.

I've had frustrations with the fact that even when people are like "Wow, I've wanted fic for this fandom forever!" it has obviously never occurred to them to go looking very hard, and since a lot of Yuletide fics aren't written out of love for the fandom by the actual author rather than just to fill somebody else's wishes, it always seems unfair that those fics get more flaily attention from the fans than the non-yuletide ones do.
But there are definitely some fandoms where it's lucky enough to even get somebody through Yuletide who can write it and there really is nothing else out there.

ayrt

I know this is mean of me, but I hate seeing mediocre, samey Yuletide fics for my fandom getting lots of support. There is so much better out there. I really wish Yuletide would tighten up their rarity requirement a notch so it really can be just about those truly rare fandoms - instead, they're talking about broadening their limit as AO3 archives get larger. God, and I just want my fandom to size out of it for good.

I really hope they don't loosen the requirements. There are already way too many "too big" fandoms in Yuletide.

Like which? Frankly, I'm more likely to see fandoms that are small but not small enough get nixed unfairly, and that's something that needs to change. :/
