This might come as a real shock to you, but some of us are actually capable of getting along with people who aren't exactly like us. OP never said the neighbors were bigots or phobes or any obvious deal breaker like that. Being unacquainted with the vagaries of fandom is hardly a crime. Certainly not something that's in desperate need of being 'challenged'.
