Screw the neighbors, I wish that capes would come back to everyday use. They'd be easier to throw on than coats.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
YANA. Oh, the things I'd do for a pretty Arwen cape...

They're just jealous, and probably are trying to work up the nerve to ask where you bought it.

My next-door neighbor has a lovely yard and garden, and when it's warm out, he can often be seen gardening, wearing nothing but a speedo-type swimsuit thing, kneepads, and crocs. He's in his 70s, too. He clearly has no fucks to give about what any of us think of him (and hey, as long as he's happy and isn't out there hurting anybody, more power to him).

We could all learn from his example.

How do you know they're not bigger geeks than you and weren't contemplating tackling you and stealing it off you before realizing how awkward that would turn out?

I wore my Legolas silk undershirt (this) to work because I hadn't done laundry. No one said anything. :(

Capes are pretty epic. I know a guy who wears a Sherlock Holmeseque cape. He's also traveled to over a 100 countries and is a millionaire. Clearly, capes make you amazing. We should all wear capes.

The last time I wore a cape I was 14 and it was from Walmart. It was part of my Lina Inverse cosplay and it was pretty terrible. My mom bought it for me and I had a blast running around pretending I could shoot fireballs at my crush.

Wear that cape, OP. Wear it in good health.

Screw the neighbors, you're awesome.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
I have a ren faire cloak that I like to wear when it's cold out. That thing is hella warm, much warmer than any of my winter coats. I haven't got the nerve to wear it to work, though. But wearing it on walks is awesome because my daughter can cuddle up in it if she feels cold (or just wants a cuddle).

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Let them look. Not only should capes make a comeback, but it's also your own handiwork.

Capes are cool. I wore one as a teenager and I wish I still had it. Sometimes people gave me weird looks, but anyone who commented on it thought it was really cool.

Capes are awesome, fuck the police, tbh.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Does your cape look anything like the one in the secret? Either your neighbours mistook it for a bathrobe (and why they would give you funny looks for wearing something with a hood, IDEK), or they're just really stuck-up and not worth bothering with in the first place.

I mean, even if it was a blinged-out cosplay cape, so what? And why were they watching you pick up your paper in the rain, anyway?

*tilts head*

.....Is it just me or is something not right here.....

Capes are awesome OP.

Not the same thing, but I remember when I was still in high school, one year for homecoming, or prom or something we got all dressed up and went to the mall before actually going to whatever it was. It was awesome, so the next year we did it again only we just went to Wal-mart best dance thingy with a name I can't remember ever. All of us girls bought little plastic tiaras out of the toy section and wore them all night.

I used to wear a Jedi cloak when it got chilly. :)

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Dude that's awesome!

I have a nice green cloak my mom made for me when I was 13 and going to Ren Faires all the time. It's crazy warm, I wish I could wear it around more often. But I go up too many staircases, it'd trip me or other people! D:

You should have seen the look on the pizza guy's face

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
When he arrived with our 5 large pizzas to see three dudes and a girl whacking at each other with broadswords in the front yard. Only two of us had cloaks, but we were all well-armed.

LotR marathons are taken seriously in my household.

Hey, i wear my frock coat when it's chilly enough. Who cares what the neighbors think?

This thread made my night. Also, seconding the (thus-far unanimous?) opinion that capes are awesome and you've nothing to be ashamed of.

I can also suggest a source of good looking capes that aren't always prohibitively expensive: theatrical supplies. My high school got all their costumes from a mail-order company, and had racks of old costumes in the back rafters gathering dust. I convinced the theater teacher to let me pay $75 for a beautiful black and red cape that hadn't been used in years. If I could wear it all the time and everywhere without attracting funny looks, I would.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
maybe I'm mean but I can't help but wonder if they're REALLY looking at you, or if you're imagining it. lots of people, especially in fandom, are either self-conscious, or in love with the idea of being noticed for their "unique quirkiness" compared to "boring normal people."

I've never had neighbors that keep such close tabs on each other that they notice such things from one mailbox trip, much less care about it.

This is so great, omg. I used to wear a lab coat to high school, as well as hiking boots and socks of sometimes dramatically mismatched height. Eventually you become oblivious to the stares. xD
