I didn't care all that much when it got canceled, because I had lost interest in the creative changes at that point. But it's a pity what happened to the characters. Those that weren't killed off are barely recognizable anymore, Monet perhaps being an exception.

Hey, I get to use this icon!

I feel your pain, OP.

Also I still ship Paige/Jono.

*sigh*

Me, too. I stick my fingers in my ears about anything that happened after I stopped reading (like, issue #18 or something).

A Gen X secret!! I loved that book. Towards the end it really started to suck and I'm still pissed they nixed Jubilee/Synch and then killed him.

That's how I feel about New X-Men

The younger generation or Grant Morrison's run? Because I feel the same for both.

The yonger generation in general (Surge, Hellion, Dust, etc)

I so agree with you. :( They were reduced to poor bit players when their initial series were so much better than the main-player X-Men stuff you see these days.

It was SO much better. You understood why they were working together and there was little to no "heroes fighting other heroes"

That is why I refuse to believe there was any canon after issue 30. Or possibly 25.

idk. I'm never sure on my numbers.

Generation X! Oh man. Oh wow, just every freaking thing about this team. Heck, and I started picking it up in the Hama and Dodson days, back when I was a wee one. Didn't even read the original stuff until I was in college. Still one of my favorite superhero teams of all time, and boy howdy do I wish there were more books like it right now. (Aside from general awesomeness, hey lookit that, a super-team made up of 50% women and only two white kids, and they never really had to make a thing out of it. It just was.)

More depressing for me than it being over is remembering how stoked I was when I found out Lobdell was going to be writing books in the nu52. I couldn't wait to see what the man who gave us Generation X--a book where women were treated like characters, and even Emma Frost, sex queen, was given respect and not turned into 100% sexy 100% of the time--would do next.

And we saw.

Ouch.

Generation X! Still one of my favorites and one of the first books I ever followed, mostly because Jubes was already a favorite character. Went in for Jubes stayed because the chars were so awesome!

Sorry to hear that, anon. :(

(Anonymous) 2013-01-03 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
I loved that title. I stopped reading the title after moving and having trouble getting a hold of new issues. I was shocked when I heard later on what happened to everybody. Well, I didn't read the bad stuff, so it never happened! LA LA LA LA LA! Never happened!

(Anonymous) 2013-01-03 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
This book made me like Emma Frost.

And then Morrison got his hands on her :(

(Anonymous) 2013-01-03 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
for real. She was always one of my favorite characters (especially after New Mutants) and I shipped her with Sean so hard.

Then came the whole Cyclops thing. Eww, you'd think she had better taste.

I can't not comment to this without using this account.

Sob, I was such a fangirl for this... but anything after, oh, the Twins Reveal... yeah, it went down the shitter. I'll never buy anything Jay Faeber writes, or the Dodsons 'illustrate' (and man I use that term loosely where their work is concerned)... and I've never really forgiven Ellis for the ass cherry on the shit sundae the book became.

I couldn't get into the Harley Quinn series because the Dodsons did the art. So sad.

Yup. I was really excited for that...

..and then saw who was doing the art and didn't buy a single issue.

I loved that book so much. It started when I was 13 and hadn't been into the X-Men long, and I loved it through a lot of difficulties with actually getting my hands on the comics. I never actually found out the full extent of the awfulness the writers perpetrated until a couple of years ago, and I've been boggling about it ever since, just as I boggle every time I hear about the present/last few years' incarnations of the characters and how little they seem to resemble the ones I loved. :(
