But no really, I will accept anything that allows Fury to keep his Cold War Spy-ness in movie canon. Anything. Except that the damn durty commies wouldn't spot the one black guy in Siberia apparently.

Maybe "Nick Fury" is a legacy name given to the guy who's running S.H.I.E.L.D. at any given moment. That way, Hasselhoff could have some strange cameo where he tries to be buddy-buddy with Samuel L. Jackson and talk about running S.H.I.E.L.D. during the Cold War until SLJ says, "Get the fuck outta my office, motherfucker!!!" And Tony Stark/Cap/Thor/Natasha/Clint/Hulk (or all of them) punches Hasselhoff!Fury in the face.
