Re: remixes/covers that are better than the original
Alanis Morisette's cover of "Crazy"
Annie Lennox's cover of "Take Me To the River"
Annie Lennox's cover of "Put a Little Love In Your Heart" with Al Green
Bina Mistry's cover of "Hot Hot Hot"
Chris Ledoux's cover of "Life Is a Highway"
Cleopatra & Hakim's cover of "Walk Like an Egyptian"
David Mead's cover of "Human Nature"
The Donnas' cover of "Dancing With Myself"
Elwood's cover/rewrite of "Sundown"
Harvey Danger's cover of "Save It For Later"
Jason Spooner's cover of "Wishing Well" (although that's a close call)
Jeffrey Gaines's cover of "In Your Eyes" (another close one)
Lou Barlowe's cover of "Round and Round"
The Miracles of Modern Science's cover of "Pumped Up Kicks"
Mojo Nixon's cover of "Girlfriend In a Coma"
The Monkees' cover of "Every Step Of the Way"
Moxy Fruvous's cover of "I've Gotta Get a Message To You"
Ozzy Osbourne & Coal Chamber's cover of "Shock the Monkey"
Patty Larkin's cover of "Have a Little Faith In Me"
The Polyphonic Spree's cover of "Lithium" (I'll probably take flak for that one)
Primus's cover of "Making Plans For Nigel"
Pseudo Echo's cover of "Funkytown"
REM's cover of "I Am Superman"
Seal's cover of "Fly Like an Eagle"
Suzy Bogguss's cover of "Lovin' a Hurricane"
Taj Mahal's cover of "Take a Giant Step"
Thea Gilmore's cover of "You Spin Me Right Round"
Too Much Joy's cover of "That's a Lie"
Voice of the Beehive's cover of "I Think I Love You"
Wassis Diop's cover of "Once In a Lifetime"
Not sure if Cry Cry Cry's version of "Cold Missouri Waters" counts as a cover or not.
I don't like it better than the original, exactly, but The Presidents of the Unites States of America's cover of "Video Killed the Radio Star" is a lot of fun. Ditto Soul Asylum's cover of "School's Out."
I'd list my favorite cover of "Devil's Right Hand" if I could figure out who the first version was. Steve Earle wrote it, but is Copperhead Road its first appearance? Anyway, Johnny Cash's and Webb Wilder's versions are both great.
I am the only person in the world who prefers the original Tears for Fears version of "Mad World" to the covers.
