I was sad when he died because I'd enjoyed him in the other Marvel movies, but I enjoyed him as a slightly smug bureaucrat who almost always held the cards in a scene, so I didn't really like how he became a fanboy around Cap. Also, I'd already written scenes between Coulson and Cap where Coulson behaves like he does with Tony and Thor, all staid and clever and slightly smug, and I just prefer that so much more than the fanboy thing.

No, no you're not. I'm completely the same (except that I haven't written anything). I don't think I would have minded the cards so much if that's all it had been but the awkward scene on the plane where Coulson pretty much makes an idiot of himself - that I really could have lived without.

I kind of find that scene funny, but I'd rather see normal people go ga-ga over Cap---Coulson's fanboying in that scene seemed really OOC to me based on what we'd seen previously.
