It would have to be done as a series, and an awkward series at that since they'd have to recast the show every few episodes. I do have some hope, though. American Horror Story is breaking some ground with the idea that you can have a continuation of a series without using the same characters or setting.

Anyway, that's the way I see it working, because the thing about Silmarillion is that it isn't one story, it's a whole bunch of stories, and they are all extremely sketchy and would have to be filled out a great deal in order to make it work on the screen.

I've always thought it would be best as a TV series, too.
