TW: RAPE

Just want to get this out there: http://veaghan.tumblr.com/post/39638563867/tw-rape-if-you-are-a-woman-or-care-about-women-reblog

holy shit

Re: TW: RAPE

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
What the fuck is wrong with people. I feel sick after reading about this.

Re: TW: RAPE

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
you know what, I was going to reblog this, but wtf, I only have 3 followers who aren't very active

this makes me sick and I hope they get their asses thrown into jail, but I don't know how reblogging this will cause anything

like, twitter? celebs are more active there so I could see it gaining ground, but just tumblr is too much noise and not enough media attention/pressure

take this to an American press, or something

Anything that means it gets more notice helps. Share wherever you have people who haven't heard the story yet.

The press is just now getting wind. I hope to god these fuckers pay.

fwiw I saw it on Twitter last night.

This is despicable.

Here's a recent article about the case
http://edition.cnn.com/2013/01/04/justice/ohio-rape-online-video/

It's not looking good at all. At the bottom, the link for "Backers hope to revive Violence Against Women Act" is despairingly ironic.

Re: TW: RAPE

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
wait, literally "ironic" as in "the opposite of the expected outcome" or as in "dark-humorously appropriate"?

Re: TW: RAPE

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Dark-humourously appropriate".
Even more so as VWA was dropped because apparently, even though it was bipartisan and passed in the Senate by a large majority, the Republican representatives thought it supported LGBT people, Native Americans and immigrants too much. Giving more power to tribal governments to prosecute non-Native rape suspects was apparently too much.

SIGH.

wow what a clusterfuck

WHAT THE EVER LOVING FUCK

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
"You can come up with conspiracy theories and everything, but for prosecutors to take a case to trial, you have to have substantial evidence, you have to have evidence that can be presented. And in this case, I don't believe there is much more," Steubenville police Chief William McCafferty said.

He said he believes his town, and his force, have been portrayed unfairly.

"I think they have made our community look like something that its not. It's a very good community," he said. "Nobody condones rape, nobody condones lawlessness."

But McCafferty also said he's puzzled why no one intervened in the alleged assaults.

"Why didn't somebody stop it?" he said. "You simply don't do that. ... It's not done."

How can he say that with a straight face?! How the fuck does he think rapists get away with it?! I bet he would change his tune if it was his daughter who went through this. Oh, or maybe he would be the type to want to cover it up to avoid the shame, never mind that the rapists would walk free

argh fuck this is pissing me off

He has a point about evidence and the innocent until proven guilty thing. That applies to all felonies and it's a fundamental tenet of civilized society that you simply don't throw someone in jail for something you can't prove they did.

But the rest of his comments are really irritating. Yeah, maybe if you made more of an effort making sure women don't get raped in the first place, that they have proper resources to collect this evidence you keep talking about, that they are listened to and taken seriously every time they report it and are encouraged to report it, a big enough fuss and strong enough condemnation of rapists is raised that rapists don't feel like they can get away with it, and that rapists are given penalties harsh enough to scare them off and/or keep them the hell out of society, maybe you'd have more success with your so-called "good community".

na

Hell, in this case you don't even have that since the people who did it bragged about doing it on camera. The people in this town trying to cover it over are all kinds of fucked up (it reminds me a lot of a similar incident in a texas town a couple of years ago. Looks like no one learned a damn thing)

Re: WHAT THE EVER LOVING FUCK

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
The problem is that in a lot of rape cases that are reported, even if all logical evidence stacks against the rapist, prosecutors will still try and claim it was the victim's fault. About a year or so ago, there was a rape case on trial where they said that the woman "couldn't" have been raped because her jeans were "too tight" to have been removed by somebody other than her.

So, yeah, "innocent until proven guilty" in the case of rape often ends up being "innocent because we say so." It's disgusting.

Whenever I start thinking Ohio might not be so bad, I'm reminded that yes, yes it is. I hate this fucking state.

You live in Ohio? Get someone to fucking kill these motherfuckers. Not before torturing them though.

Re: TW: RAPE

Well. I'm glad I took the advice of people and didn't walk through Stuebenville when I was there. I was told that "nothing good ever happens there" and that I should just skip right over it. I guess they were right.

Sickening.

I just saw this mentioned on the news and apparently Anon has gotten involved. They're bringing up the evidence from Twitter and the videos those worthless piles of shit made. Anon is also protesting and there's been a video posted calling the rapists out and saying that rape is not a sport.

Sickening, does anyone know if the girl is getting appropriate support and help considering half her school/town is dead-set against protecting her?

Apparently this happened months ago, but no one knew about it outside of this little town. Her lawyer said she is doing as well as can be expected so I assume her mother got her the proper care she needed.
