Recently, on one of my fics, I'm being bombarded by a couple of trolls that, for some reason, are fighting with me on an older fic I wrote years ago. I've talked to them about the fic and done anything and everything I can to appease them, but all they keep doing is belittling my fic instead of moving on, turning it into a SJW issue.

I hate dealing with trolls. I've dealt with them before and all they do is wear me out.

Ignore them.
You're not supposed to respond to trolls, you won't be getting anywhere feeding a troll whose sole purpose is to get a rise out of you and watch you get upset.

At a certain level, all you can do is ignore someone, if they're sufficiently committed and sufficiently hateful not to be reasoned with. If someone really decides that they don't like you and they want to make you have a bad day, or whatever, there's nothing you can really do to stop them. You just have to let it go. Just be polite, don't engage, and move on.

Examine yourself and your conscience, obviously, don't just ignore them, but if you're confident you're basically in the right on this one, there's only so much you can do. Trolls is trolls, trolls is always going to be trolls, and there's no real response to that.

I mean, I understand, because it's difficult not to engage, but seriously, just...walk away. It's one thing if somebody wants to have a serious discussion, but trolls aren't there for the discussion, they're there to get a rise out of you, and you took the bait. Best bet is just ignoring them because they can gloat all they want about how they've "won," but they were going to do that anyway. Save yourself the time and headache and ignore them right off the bat.

See, this is why people need to spend more time on 4chan, so they can learn how to identify and ignore trolls easily and quickly.

Well, sure, you'd know that, but the knowledge comes at a heavy price: spending a lot of time on a message board that's full of trolls and that just sucks a lot of the time.

If you could have, like, a 4chan training montage, and just go on there for like 3 or 4 minutes while some awesome 80s guitar song plays, and then be super good at identifying trolls, that'd probably be the ideal way to do it.

This was a big mistake (but you probably already knew that?).

Just block them, if you can do it on the website it's happening on. If you can't, contact the support for that website and tell them that you are being harassed.

You don't "deal" with trolls. You kick them out and/or ignore them.

Yeah, that's what I did--sent an abuse report (I can't block them on the site I was on, but if I could, I would in a heartbeat). And I'm ignoring them until I get a reply from the abuse team there.

DO NOT ENGAGE. I REPEAT: DO NOT ENGAGE. If you actually admit "guilt" or apologise, they will only come after you more. Ignore and move along.

SJW trolls are best ignored.

Eh. I recently decided to delete a very old fic of mine because there was female character bashing in it and as I can't condone that any more, I don't want it to be on the internet. But no one forced me into that decision. If YOU believe in what you wrote, there's nothing they can do about it. Don't appease them, just let the text stand; nothing they say will ever change it.
