I feel in general the fandom is trying too hard to make the ~magic happen. A lot of the memes feel forced. Same with a lot of the ships, especially Bilbo/Thorin. Imo, there was no chemistry. /grump

Shippers gonna ship. Besides, it has the classic formula of popular pairings - a hot dude who's kind of nice and mild, and a hot dude who's all broody and ~majestic. Plus, there was a subplot exploration of their relationship in the actual movie, and Thorin finally accepting Bilbo was the resolution of that. The happy ending of the first movie.

(I don't ship it either, for similar reasons to the secret OP, but I get why people do.)

(I do wish there was more gen discussion.)
