I guess I've just never heard about someone getting in trouble across the internet because a teenager's parents tracked down the writer of the smut their kid read.

I do know of one author who ended up pulling all her fic because some parents complained about how their teen children had read her horribly pornographic fic! (The fic in question wasn't pornographic. No worse than some of the raunchier romance novels you can buy.) The author's website did have a front page disclaimer about it not being suitable for minors, but that was irrelevant as far as the parents were concerned.

I think this is why FFN mass-deleted their entire NC17 section in 2002; they said the category was the source of pretty well all the complaints they received, and I imagine a lot of those were complaints from parents.

They weren't sued, afaik, it was more a matter of reducing their workload/reducing the need to fend off imaginary legal threats. Which is why it seemed so horrifically callous towards writers & readers at the time - they were doing it for everyone except the site's audience. :/

Well I certainly never spoke out about the woman that managed to get my phone number and proceeded to harass me regarding her innocent 17 year old reading my horrible pornography. I was much more concerned about her threats to get me fired from my (non-student interacting) job at a university.

Sith academy had to pull one of their long NC-17 fics because someone's mom threw a bitch fit. Despite the fact the fic was on the adult section and clearly labeled NC-17. That's the first one off the top of my head.

I personally ran an rpg where I had people from ages 13-32. So I said no porn and enforced that very strictly. Why? I had people's parents on my cbox and pming me asking what my site was about and why are their children on it for hours.

Unlike a decade or so ago, we're finally getting to the age when parents actually know how to use the internet. Frankly I don't blame people for being paranoid.
