Yeah, though I think it was a good call to limit the cameos to the beginning of the movie.

Maybe it was the over-the-top sugary sweetness of the racing game's setting? It actually made me think of Candyland and Strawberry shortcaked mushed together with a racing game, and I can see how that might put some people off.

I've heard people complaining about there being too few cameos, but if they had too many, it would have felt like it was pandering way too much. The quicker references in the station made sense, since it was the crossover zone for different games. They'd be out of place in the games themselves.

Different tastes, I guess. The tooth-rotting setting and horrible candy-related puns had me bouncing in my seat with joy.

That's part of why I agree that it was a good call to limit most of the cameo's to the beginning of the movie. It would have felt like it was pandering, and probably alienated the parts of the audience who had no clue who the characters were. With how it was done, even if you didn't know the characters you wouldn't be thrown out of the story, and it was a nice bonus for those who did recognize them.

I didn't mind them. I enjoy puns, and while I'm not totally a fan of an 'all candy' landscape it fit with the characters and story.
