A wants to make B pay attention to them. A decides the way to do this is to make B jealous by having sex with lots of people and/or having B catch them with another person.

I have to assume that these fics always take place in bizarro-world where setting out to purposely hurt someone you care about is a-okay, and no one cares about their love interest sleeping with dozens of other people. Because, you know, even people who are fine with casual sex generally don't want to be in a relationship with someone who's been acting like Barney Stinson.
