Because when it comes to straight ships, it's just about being together, not about their sexuality. The whole "you guys must be together" is entirely about their sexuality, and we all know that being accused of being gay is the WORST. POSSIBLE. THING.

When we reach the point at which queer relationships are totally normal and the jokes becomes just about being together, not about being gay, then it will be fine.

I'm not sure how I see how presuming two people are together is not about their sexuality.

It is weird to assume two people are gay since it's a pretty rare thing. Seriously fandom made their own bed with as much slash as they produce. Now they get to sleep in it.

Being gay is not a rare thing. Which is the problem. Heteronormative assumptions and all that.

Polls consistently show approximately 3 per cent of respondents will identify themselves as gay. Not too high a number.

It's usually not about their sexual orientation. When Guy A and Girl B get shipteased, it's still very much assumed that even if they don't get together, Guy A will like girls and Girl B will like guys. If you want to watch a show about straight people and these particular straight people aren't cutting it for you, you can find more straight people on any other show.

Also, this conversation has really not been about straight slashers so far, it's been about a minority group wanting to be able to do the same thing that the majority can- get into a show, and see people like themselves having relationships and being happy. No disrespect intended toward straight slashers, but this is really not what this is about.
