Plenty of them do.

It's worth noting that adults have always been the worst offenders when it comes to being completely naive online. Remember back in the day when most 18+ people's e-mail consisted of [FirstNameLastName]@genericserver.com?

But there's been a ton of contradictory information published on whether privacy exists online and prudent people should take the trouble to maintain it. Anonymity is for criminals vs. anonymity protects you.

And in my experience, it depends a lot on where you hang out whether keeping to yourself is parsed as reasonable behavior or awfully unfriendly. I was amazed at the culture of sharing everything with complete strangers that used to exist on LJ, before something kicked off wave after wave of f-locking. And you know what? I miss it. I owe countless people who would have been complete strangers if they hadn't been pouring their hearts out to the world at large. They're part of what convinced me to de-lurk.
