it's an attempt at getting emotion across via the cold language of text on the internet. the new generations emoticons i suppose. there was actually an interesting post (on tumblr ofc) about that but fuck if i am bothered to go find it.

That post is gorgeous. Moreover, I can now excuse random Tumblr surfing as studying the evolution of a new dialect for my linguistics classes.

Too many people take language ridiculously seriously and treat it like it should be rigid, when it's not! Quirks in language come about exactly the way you described. Tumblrese is actually an interesting insight on how language evolves. Excellent post.

This is interesting.

I used "tumblr dialect" long before I got a tumblr. I think I picked it up from an anon meme I frequented at the time, which got it from ONTD. I've noticed there are a few terms people associate with tumblr that I saw first on ONTD.

But in any case, I think it's hilarious how angry people get over "feels".
