The mentality of "YOU ARE NOT A TRUE FAN OF THIS GENRE UNLESS YOU LIKE THIS" is such bullshit. Do you like sci-fi? Then you're a true sci-fi fan, regardless of what you think of this one show that happens to be sci-fi.

(I know this secret is about Firefly, but the above also applies to Star Wars and Star Trek.)

I've actually heard people say Firefly isn't sci fi enough. But still, no, I agree that it's a stupid mentality.

Definitely. I love Firefly, but it's hardly a definitive or genre-defining work. I can't even think of anything that a scifi fan MUST see. It's just too big.
