There are no rules to what you should and shouldn't like to be a sci-fi fan. That's all kinds of bullshit.

When telling my friends they should watch Firefly I always give qualifiers because it's not the kind of show you fall into and adore immediately. At least, I certainly didn't.

I'd say that the first 4-5 episodes aren't the easiest to get through. And then it becomes a little easier to watch and by the time you hit the 14th episode you wonder where the rest of it is.

The first couple of times that I watched Firefly, I really didn't like the 'real' pilot. Then one time I watched it and I realised it's my favourite episode. But that only happened once I knew and loved the characters, which is, really quite a weird way for a pilot to work.

So, maybe give it a bit more time? See if you fall for it. But, at the same time, don't feel that you have to.
