With everyone I've ever heard discussing why they like A/B/O, it's because of the ridiculousness, the OTTness, the weird biologically enforced sexual roles, and the dubcon/noncon aspects. It's a way to delve into these super-creepy idficcy kink ideas, while putting them in a completely absurd framework that distinguishes them from reality. When the author is writing about "how omegas/alphas are" and not "how men/women are" (and alphas and omegas can both be either men or women), it's clear they don't think their weird fantasy setup is an accurate description of gender roles.

Plus, we get to make our m/m and f/f OTPs have babies. Especially the f/f ones! In general authors seem much more willing to handwave the mechanics for pregnant [cis] men than impregnating [cis] women, so I'm all for anything that increases the amount of fempreg in the world.

And yeah, sometimes it's 100% for the porn. For the people who read and write that, it's a feature, not a bug, so going "ugh why don't you do some actual relationship development" is kind of missing the point.

(Full disclosure, I've written a couple A/B/O fics. One was "an omega and a beta finally look past their own biology and figure out that they're meant for each other." The other was "the messed-up sexual dynamics only pile on to all the other messed-up angst that people love the canon for, though at least this way the OTP gets together before one of them dies." I know the setting is going to turn some people off no matter what, but oh well. They were still entertaining to write.)
