I used to be the exact same way. Nowadays...well, the sex/biology aspects of it still creep me the fuck out, but some of the world building/exploring aspects can be really interesting when handled that way. Despite not actually liking the kink itself, I've enjoyed more than a few stories involving alpha/omega dynamics.

...of course, a large part of this might be because I prefer my shipping without porn and I skip those bits all the time anyway. It must be harder for people who want the sex scenes to turn them on. :/

I like a/b/o fic but I really wish more authors would really think about what they're writing and take into account that a lot of it is non-con and sure, the characters are hot and bothered now but later when they're not in the middle of their heat or whatever, they're probably not going to be as happy about these turn of events! And I really don't like fic where omegas are treated like second-class citizens. That's not fair! I know it's a kink but that rubs me the wrong way too.

Did I write this in my sleep? Yeah, I've never been one to be squicked by much and even if I don't like something, I'm happy for other people to have their fun with it. But the alpha/beta/omega thing, for whatever reason, I can't deal with. I just find the idea of it so upsetting. I haven't seen it in all my fandoms, but I feel like it's only a matter of time.

I'm with you OP. I used to think I could tolerate anything in fandom, until this omega verse craze hit fandom hard. I hate the implications of it, and loathe how so many authors/fics lack any insight and never address the myriad disturbing aspects of the dynamics instead choosing to have a wank fest over how the omega is a slave to hormones and omg, let's have pronz.

I'm just like you, OP ... except for Teen Wolf. For some reason I find many kinks I usually don't like at all (omegaverse, mpreg, knotting, beastiality) really hot in Teen Wolf fic. I don't even know why.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having a no-go kink. Everyone draws the line somewhere. Though personally, I'd be far more disturbed by something like extreme underage because child sexual abuse actually happens, whereas that whole Alpha/Omega thing is, at least for human beings, a completely fictional (and really, really dumb) set-up.

I have no interest in reading it. I will cop to reading more than my share of accidental slave fic (OMG, these bracelets do what now?!) over the years, but I am not interested in reading about an entire society with all these strictly circumscribed roles, and I especially am not interested in what seem to often be the trappings of the kink: knotting and going into heat and etc.

I have no issues with anyone else reading and writing it. I just scroll on by.

I handwave the dynamics stuff sometimes, but god help me when I read the word "slick" in Alpha/Beta/Omega m/m smut; like, mood's totally gone, there. I am so not on with self-lubricating anuses, so not on.

But yeah. YKINMK. And I kept reading fics that are clearly labeled as such, so I have only myself to blame.

I tried a few of them. Even the "plotty" and "thoughtful" ones creeped me the fuck out. And they don't turn me on at all. I think I'm missing the appeal. I really don't mind a bit of dub-con, but there's no thrill if nobody involved is aware of how rapey it is?

It's not the concept that annoys me so much as it seems to also be shorthand for "Always OOC, and the author's a trendwhore who can't write lust or romance for crap and so handwaves it with *magic lust*"

I can't risk them. The first one I read, I didn't know what the tag meant, and, ah, I came out of the fic hyperventilating and in a full-blown panic attack. I, ah. Non-con, dub-con. But more the socially mandated loss of self-determination, and the chemically/biologically induced loss of self. I don't deal well with that.

I've no idea if the one I read is representative of the general trend. But basically whether the Omegaverse fic carries the extra warnings or not, I tend to consider the tag synonymous with non-con/dub-con, because it's too risky to do otherwise.

So, yes. I scroll past them. YKINMK. Um. Rather emphatically.

I think most people have some sort of kink that is a big, fat "NO WAY" for them. You're definitely not the only one who disliked the a/b/o stuff because of the whole biologically-defined-roles and dub/non-con, either. I actually enjoy some of it--especially the stuff with the more thorough world-building that really delves into the politics of it or explores the inherent consent issues. I can see why it would be irritating if you didn't like it, though, given that it's gained popularity in several of the bigger fandoms, so it does seem like it's everywhere.

People are not wolves, last time I checked, so I have no clue how it's suppose to work on human based ,and RPF fics.

I find a/b/o utterly weird, but at the same time can get why people really like it on an 'id fic' pure kink level. what i don't get is how you can read 'extreme underage' fic (how did you find it? did you seek it out? or does it just involve one your kinks? like, how?) and not be grossed out. like, you are grossed out by a/b/o it seems because people are forced into sexual roles against their will - and yet you're okay with fic where kids with no ability to make an appropriate choice for themselves are made to have sex. oh, and you also happily read non con too.

i'm not shaming you for reading these things, i just don't get how your mind works.

Agreed about the negative implications. It's kind of odd, really, since my part of fandom is filled with SJWs yet we're supposed to find a universe with inherent non/dub-con okay?
