I too find Firefly dislikeable. It doesn't get better, OP, River just gets more annoying and Mary Sueish and everyone is more tropey and bland. It's not for everyone, like I said before, I consider it sci fi lite, or sci fi for people who don't like sci fi.

Warning:It has a really intense fandom-- I mentioned my dislike of River and was slammed with comments about how wrong I was for example, even though she's a huge Mary Sue. The person who said they were spat at is 100% believable to me. So yeah, if your friends are those kinds of fans, they might get on your case, but do you really need someone like that as a friend?
