....where is "here" for you? I have never seen a tampon without an applicator, so I'm wondering where you live?

Germany.
I have not ever seen a tampon with applicator -- I knew they ~exist, but I had no idea what they look like (until now, that is).

That's interesting. I didn't think it was a universal thing, but I guess it never occurred to me that some places might not have them at all.

I just googled germany tampon and they look like long rifle bullets. I really don't like getting blood on my fingers, which sometimes happen when I take the applicator out, so I think I'll look for them the next time I'm at an international market or something.

but...then you would get more blood on your fingers?

Germany Anon

yes, you would. I can't use tampons for Bodily Reasons, but the few one time I tried, it was very bloody hands-y. But that's what toilet paper and then sinks are for?

Not really? Once the tampon is in I don't need to take it out again until hours later. With the applicator, there's always blood when I take it out and I get blood on my fingers half the time.

Realistically I might get blood on my fingers without an applicator, but I won't know until I try and so the incentive is there.

but when putting it in, you're literally shoving your finger far up where the blood comes from? which is what an applicator, I think, prevents?

IT IS VERY EXCITING YES

I (somewhat) recently de-anoned, and it's been awesome! Though sometimes you make mistakes and look like an asshole, and everyone knows it's you. That part kind of sucks. BUT IT'S WORTH IT.

Welp I just read German anon's comment and there's blood too D:

I still want to try it. Bloody periods...

yeah, that's why I was confused. because without the applicator you are totally just putting your fingers where the applicator would be. which....would be bloodier, yes?

I find the idea of an applicator super awesome! But how can you... discreetly carry these around? I'm not a purse-carrying person, and I don't think these huge things would fit nicely in my pockets. Pads are basically invisible.

are you happy to see me or...

(frozen comment) I'M VERY HAPPY TO SEE YOU

[personal profile] tyger66 2013-01-07 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
well, they aren't significantly larger in diameter than just a tampon (at least the ones I use aren't), so the main difference would be length, but they make them smaller every day. Recently I saw a special "compact" type where the applicator was extendable -- that is, it was no larger than a regular tampon before use. (found a link to one -> http://www.tampax.com/en-US/products/productDetail.aspx?ID=tampax-compak-pearl)

But I am a purse-carrying person, so I don't actually know how noticeable a regular tampon would be in a pocket. Sorry. :(
