The thing about Firefly is it's really really heavy on the worldbuilding. And the thing about that is... once you get situated in a show/story/whatever like that, the setting is really neat. But before that, it can feel really unwieldy and like "Dude, idgaf about your accents or your funny clothes. What is even going on?"

I liked Firefly a lot but it took a few episodes for it to... feel natural. Once it did, I just loved it. But it took time to get used to. I had to get to the point where I felt comfortable in the setting rather than confused by it.

Only you know whether it's worth it to stick it out, but I suspect that could be why one episode wasn't doing much for you.

And I suspect that's why your friends didn't answer your questions. If someone asked me to describe it and didn't know what a "space Western" is, I'd be at a loss. If they asked "are there Xs or Ys in it" I'd probably stammer and go "uh, kinda, well, it... it yeah no well um."

That wouldn't be because I didn't want to answer you; it would be because it's so unusual that I really wouldn't know how to answer. Were your friends being mean about it, or might they just have been thinking "You'll have to see it; I can't explain"?
