Leaving aside her shitty behavioral norms - which I guess fall into the same category as rom-com stalking - I can't work out how anyone could identify with someone who's literally insane. I mean, yes, yearning for something outside the boundaries of everyday life, fine, but can't you find someone to identify with that doesn't have that urge in a way that's totally toxic?

Haruhi hate is so 2007, YES WE GET IT SHE IS A HORRIBLE PERSON that is kind of the point? Really? Fucking watch something else?

Also if you want to talk annoying characters, Mikuru is fucking annoying as shit, her voice is god damn fucking annoying and she's barely more than a male masturbatory fantasy. I mean, I feel really bad for the way she's treated and the way Haruhi abuses her and it isn't right, but holy FUCK what an annoying character

Really? Her voice is annoying? That's the anime's fault, and that has nothing to do with the light novels. Also, she grows up to be super independent and mature and awesome as seen in Disappearance. :/

I haven't seen the show, so I can't comment on the sex offender thing. But I do remember a scene of a time they got drunk that girl (forgot her name but she was a time traveler or something?) so Haruhi could tape a sex scene for her movie. Never bothered with the show after that.

Huh? I don't remember anyone getting drunk in this show. I remember the movie and how Haruhi forced Mikuru to wear a sexy bunny outfit but I don't think there was any serious attempt at a sex scene at all, the farthest this show goes is Haruhi forcing Mikuru to wear sexy outfits and sometimes inappropriately groping her, which is like, par for the course in today's anime

Kind of agree? I do think anyone who is *actually* like Haruhi has a lot of problems. And yes, there are real-life people who are just as entitled and... molest-y as her. So when people say they're like her it kind of confuses me. On the other hand, a lot of people who say they're like Haruhi just mean that they're quirky, spontaneous, or interested in the supernatural. So, I wouldn't say I judge everyone who relates to her.

If you identify with Haruhi, whatever. People identify with characters for all sorts of reasons. If you think Haruhi is a good role model, you may have some issues.

The whole series does those things for laughs all the time. It's not just Haruhi's groping, just think about Koizumi's disregard for Kyon's personal space and Kyon borderline perving on Mikuru.
