I pretty much only read older fiction, with some exceptions. I find modern film and television to generally be vastly superior to modern literature.

Same. After a childhood flooded with every kind of magical/fantasy book out there, Stargate was basically my gateway drug. I still keep up with some of my favorite authors from before (Pratchett, Colfer, Pierce, etc), but - outside of fanfic and meta - I don't really read read too much anymore.
Although I've also started to notice that I can devour a good 100k+ fanfic in a matter of hours, so if anything my reading speed's been steadily increasing, not decreasing.

Hee! I was the exact same way with Star Trek! And yeah, I have a lot of authors I adore and reread over and over, but I don't devour books the way I used to. Part of it's that I don't have enough time to read novels and so I have to sate my desire for fiction with a less time-consuming medium, but I also just can't find any new ones that remotely interest me.

Basically I talked about how length isn't so much an issue with me since I take into consideration time it takes to watch a season/series vs a book/series, instead of straight up episode vs book. Also I learned how to knit/crochet/needlework to give my hands something to do, so now I see watching TV/movies as more productive since I can multitask.
Also book fandoms are generally smaller than most TV fandoms, and I tend to pick out series based on recs/permeative squee nowadays - e.g. Community after the 2011 Fandom Steel Cage Match - so books are already at a disadvantage.

And yeah...come to think of it, the only book fandom I've been heavily involved in on the internet is Harry Potter.
