I mean, I get the argument that the Hobbit's ~more for children~ than LOTR. I do. But "for children" and inserting a bit of comedy does not mean "aim for the lowest common denominator jokes." (Remember "Nobody throws a dwarf!"? Second breakfasts?) In those scenes, I seriously felt like I was watching some low budget cartoon that the writers, directors, and producers didn't give half an ass about because they weren't being paid enough to insert some actual thought. After remembering what they put into the original trilogy, it just felt insulting.
