Tumblr confuses the heck out of me too. To a point. I kinda get it.

I tend to think of it as Twitter for Pictures. It seems like the same principal as twitter. Something is posted (tweeted) and it gets reblogged (retweeted) and you search/find stuff via tags (hashtags).

I don't use either site though, so maybe I am way off. :D

I guess the thing to remember is that fandom evolves. Its tumblr today, and it was LJ yesterday, and not long ago it was forums and email groups and before that it was snail mail zines and BBS dialups. Tumblr won't last, and pretty soon everyone will be onto the next thing.

No, I use both and I'd say you're pretty much spot-on.
