Bo is fucking awesome. As is Kenzi. The show is sometimes awful, but those two are always awesome.

Indeed :)

Man, I wanted so badly to like Lost Girl. Like really, really badly. But I just could not get past the OTT and/or flat acting by the majority of the supporting characters. Which sucks, because Bo and Kenzi are pretty awesome.

Kenzi was so frickin annoying I couldn't get past the first episode. Really stupid show.

Played by the worst actor besides the one who plays Katniss(not really but can't remember the character's name) on Revolution.

It makes me sad that the show is such shit because Bo and Kenzi are so awesome. They are the characters I've been waiting for, but they're surrounded by awful. I watch an episode or two then get sick of it, then eventually need more Kenzi and Bo and go back. It's a horrible cycle. Because yeah, you don't get characters like that everyday.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I may or may not have gotten super excited last night when I found out that the new season had started again. I also may have discovered that seasons 1 and 2 are out on DVD and ordered them both on Amazon.

(it's a completely ridiculous show, but I do love Bo and Kenzi, and want to encourage more shows with non-straight leads where that's not the focus.)

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
I really hope this show gets canceled after this season. It's insulting that the LGBT community has only these ridiculous characters to rally behind in genre shows lately. The acting/plots/writing are awful. Kenzi is soooooooo annoying, I wish she'd die. (the character, not the actor)

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. Way to rain on the parade.

Just because you dislike a character doesn't mean that they're insulting to the entirety of everyone or that they should be cancelled. Hows about instead of wishing death on someone's beloved character, you turn it around and just wish for more shows with LGBT leads?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
The show is ridiculous, but please don't act like you speak for the entirety of the LGBT community.

an awesome strong bisexual female lead that has a believable romance with the cute nerdy doctor is insulting? If that's insulting then I want to know where the good stuff is. Because all the lesbian/bi media I ever see is either all about the gay (boring) or it's the only defining characteristic they have.

Dude, don't watch it. It's not insulting. For all its flaws, Lost Girl is pretty respectful of the people it represents. I happen to like the camp and silliness.

i just saw the first ep of season 3 last night...she is so incredibly hot, and i agree with you OP about all her awesomeness

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, wait, wait. People don't like this show? What? I, I, don't understand. It's got like the best platonic relationships I have ever seen and dear lord the one liners are amazing! And the bisexual thing is like so damn perfect. The show never focuses on it and it is so perfect. And there are never any damsels in distress. It's like every platonic soulmate sisterly relationship I wish other shows had and always have to settle for bro dudes.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think this should be a secret. It's a silly show, but it's not that bad. The characters are pretty much all fun. And Bo is the most awesome—she is totally a heroine I've been waiting for.

YESSS! \o/

If only the show had an actual BUDGET. :/

(Anonymous) 2013-01-11 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Welcome to Canadian television.
We get paid in pizza.

But I can't really say it's the worst I've seen recently. Once Upon A Time anyone? Those SFX couldn't be worse if they tried. Makes Lost Girl look like a Renoir in comparison.

the plot's a little silly but oh my god Bo and Kenzie are such kick-ass, awesome characters.

I just marathoned this and I have to heartily agree. Seeing a bisexual character in any show that is textually treated to dating both women and men is refreshing. One who isn't necessarily polyamorous but isn't not either! There's a spectrum of sexuality that Bo has that goes with or without her genus classification of fae that delights me. Also it's really cool to see it on a genre show especially, because that's the thing I'm most into and grew up with and while there is often teasing there's never so much... thought put into it.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-09 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry, the show is interesting (and cheesy, but that's part of the fun), and the characters are pretty awesome, but I'm honestly baffled by you assigning a trait like "unwavering moral compass" to a character who's a former serial murderer, current serial rapist who eats pieces of her victims' life force. Bo's always struck me as incredibly selfish. Independent, yes, and challenging things that need to be challenged, but nowhere near to being a good person.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-10 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
This.

Also, in the second season, the shit she pulled when Kenzi asked her to stop dating this guy that PUT HER BEST FRIEND'S BOYFRIEND IN THE PATH OF DOOM. And Bo was like "okay, ilu my bff Kenzi" and then sneaks him off in her room and still does him behind her back. Nevermind Kenzi sacrifices everything to Bo and is extremely loyal to the point of annoyance.

I haven't seen Lost Girl, but I know she's a succubus. I have a hard time imagining that it's possible for her to be a progressive portrayal of bisexual women, when that plays straight in to all of the most terrible portrayals of sexually predatory nympho bisexual women who are only bisexual in order to be even more appealing to the male gaze. Am I wrong?
