+1.

My parents (more-so my mom) will watch some things with me (LOTR + Hobbit, Marvel movies, random SPN episodes, etc) but they aren't the type to have long discussions about it. They watch it, enjoy it, and that's it.

If I try to start a conversation immediately after whatever we're watching, we'll have an amusing five minute conversation (usually about how sad/happy it was, or who were the most likable characters, or the hottest), but that's as far as it goes. They don't want to get into character motivations or plot details or shipping. Some people just don't feel as passionately about these things. *shrugs*

But I completely understand where you're coming from OP.

Wow, yeah that exactly the same way my mom is with me. She forgets very quickly who characters are if they're not reoccurring in every episode, so I always have to give a quick summary when a guest star comes back.

Still it's kind of cool at times. Once she called me to say she found a dalek reference in a Tom Clancy book she'd been reading.

Yup, that's my mom! Which is understandable if you don't watch the show regularly. (Plus some peoples memories are better than others.)

Once she called me to say she found a dalek reference in a Tom Clancy book she'd been reading.

Ahaha, awww. That's cute! I think the only Doctor Who reference my mom would get is one directly related to the title. :p
