are there any books, shows, movies, etc that you like that your parent(s) like too, that you talk about with them?

both my parents like doctor who, at christmas i go over and we watch the special together, a couple years ago we went to the dw experience together and it was great. there's a doctor who con next fall that my mom really wants to go to lol.

my dad's also a big star trek fan, so when xi came out, we went to see it twice together and that was really nice. my dad also likes superhero movies so we go see those together too usually

They're both dead now but both of my parents were pretty fannish, especially my mother - she named me after a character in one of her fandoms :/ (It's a normal English name, but unfortunately I don't like the fandom in question. Prospective parents, DO NOT DO THIS.) My mother got me into reading sf/f, though I was too young back then to 'share' any fandoms with her, exactly. I went to see all the LOTR movies with my father - we had a terrible relationship but it was one of a few things we could share in a civilised fashion.

Both of those, actually! Mum got me into both Doctor Who and Star Trek (TNG, Voyager, and we're watching Enterprise now. Sci Fi did show TOS, but I couldn't get into it.)

Both my parents are fannish in different ways. Like, I watched Buffy and Angel with my mom as a mother/daughter "Omg Spike" bonding thing when I was in middle school. She likes Quantum Leap and she used to watch Enterprise (for Scott Bakula). My mom is more a casual fan of things and will watch things for actors she likes. I talk hot guys with her.

Both my parents are fans of all types of movies, even bad movies. I can trawl the cheap DVD bins looking for the stupidest sounding movies to buy with both my parents. My dad is interested in the more fucked up types of bad movies. Like, I'd watch a crappy Syfy movie with both my parents, but I'd only watch something like, say, a movie about a guy fucking a pig and making tea out of his shit, with my dad. (That movie is called Vace de Noces.)

I can talk fanfic with my dad since he's written some (kind of). He recommends to me sci-fi things or bad movies he thinks I may like.

They're not in fandoms, but my stepdad loves Castle which is how it grew on me. (We're also both fans of reality junk like Storage Wars and Duck Dyanasty, hahaha.) My mom and I used to watch Young & Restless together all the time too.

Also, they were always up for seeing movies of the superhero kind whereas my friends were all into chick flicks.

My dad will always go see the newest superhero or Lord of the Rings movie with me, too. He got me into some of the older sci fi series, like Star Wars, Back to the Future, and MST3k (that totally counts shut up.)

In return, I got him into Firefly! I think at this point he's seen the series even more than I have.

My mom and I tend to read similar books (especially when I was younger, she'd like to read the books I was reading in school to talk to me about them) and I'm starting to get her into Discworld.

My mom got me into Star Trek as a kid. She was in elementary school when TOS first aired and was super excited when TNG started and she used to let me stay up late with her on Saturday nights watching the new TNG ep and the TOS re-run they always played afterwards. My mom likes a lot of Sci-Fi and genre shows in general, too. I accidentally got her into Teen Wolf the last time I was home, lol.

My dad was always more into superhero stuff and fantasy and got me into that. He totally got me into M.A.S.H. and started my general love for war movies/shows, too.

Oh, and my mom is the reason for quite a few of the books I read as a kid. And my obsession with The Monkees.

My mom is a big fan of Downton Abbey and superhero movies. My mom and dad are both big fans of Star Trek, The West Wing, and Frasier. My dad and I both looooove old black-and-white comedy films too.

My mom and I play Guild Wars together. I'm actually not too involved in the news and fannish side and just rely on her to give me all the latest.

We also watch a few TV shows together and have fun talking about them. I never really thought of that as fannish though, just...normal? I mean, don't people normally discuss the shows they're watching together and which characters they like and whatnot?

My dad and I primarily bond over tv/movies. Growing up my siblings and I would always get to stay up late to watch cheesy movies with Dad. And now he gets Netflix and loves to pick and choose which movies and tv series to get, and always invites me over if he's ordering a Superhero one or one he thinks I'll particularly like.

My parents both like scifi and fantasy, but only my mom could really be described as fannish. The thing we probably discuss most is Tolkein. We all used to watch Star Trek TNG as a family when I was a kid and we've also been to cons as a family.

One Piece! It kind of stuns me how much they like it, tbh, because it's basically the only anime or animated series in general they ever even consented to watch. They both love it, though, and i guess it's just a testament to how awesome it is!
