Oh, that explains why it's always "the ninth doctor, the tenth doctor, etc."... *facepalm*

Thanks.

In addition to the same-y hairstyle, hey also have a very similar facial structure: compare the chins and the eyes, and they're basically in the same position compared to each other. I can see the different nose, thicker eyebrows, slightly different eyes, and thinner/sharper face, but to me facial features just sort of blur together unless I really, really concentrate, so the things that stand out to me (the basic shape of the face, eyes, chin) are almost the same in these two actors.

Things like noses and mouths tend to blur for me, so it's like there's a blind spot in that part of the face when identifying people (unless I actually concentrate, I mean).

There have been many times my mother and I were watching TV and she would say something like, "oh, that person has a weird mouth", and I'm all like, "what are you talking abo- oh, yeah".

A lot of the differences get lost in this one because it's a super-photoshopped promo picture, and also one that's meant to establish a parallel. I think they must've even shrunk Matt Smith's whole head so it didn't look ginormous next to David Tennant's. In any case, they look a lot more similar in promos than on the actual show--Tennant is kind of narrow and pointy all over, Smith has a very broad flat face. And no eyebrows, the eyebrows are shopped in. They're both charmingly weird-looking, but it's kinda hard to tell when they're both airbrushed into generic attractive white dudes.

tl;dr David Tennant has a face like a weasel, Matt Smith has a face like a foot.

Oh, this is interesting to know! (and sort of predictable, I guess? :C)

I guess that if I watched the show or had seen screencaps instead of a promo this would be easier?
