Yeah, I don't quite understand the point of entertainment if I'm not meant to get invested in it. But to each their own. Obviously my mother enjoys entertainment without getting deeper into it, so I can't really say she's doing it wrong either. It's just frustrating, I guess, having something in common but still not being able to really connect over it.

Yea, it is. :/ It's almost worse than not having it in common at all in some cases, because then you just feel incompatible.

Obviously my mother enjoys entertainment without getting deeper into it, so I can't really say she's doing it wrong either.

Very true! Maybe you should mention that next time she says anything? There IS no right or wrong way to enjoy something and so her opinions are just that, and she should allow you to have fun in your own way.

That's exactly it. If you can't connect over something you have in common, then what chance do you have with anything else?
