Re: Depression - a question

It was my understanding that to be truly manic it would last a number of days, whereas these moods I'm talking about are usually only a day, and sometimes only a handful of hours. There's also no negative urges like poor decision making skills or impulsive behaviors like shoplifting or promiscuity, which is often a major descriptor. There's no psychosis or hallucinations or anything "extreme" like that, which is why I hesitate to really call is manic. But I just don't know, can you have a low manic? Or semi-manic? I don't know.

I would love to see someone or be on medication or therapy, but sadly I'm not in a situation at the moment so I'm mostly just reading and researching. Hopefully in the future I can talk to an actual professional about this.

I suffer from bipolar exactly like that. Yes, there is low manic, called "hypomanic" and what you're describing is called rapid cycling. During bad periods my moods can shift from hour to hour or day to day and it's miserable. You need to get help asap, because you're playing with fire unmedicated.

I understand your confusion. Doctors had a hell of a time figuring out what was wrong with me because they don't look for rapid cycling and even many doctors have never heard of it.

There might not be hallucinations or psychosis now, but bipolar, especially rapid cycling, gets worse as it continues to be untreated.

Here, have some awesome bipolar resources that not enough people know about:
