This is the guy who's going to direct the Oldboy remake.

My best guess?

Because nobody has heard of it in america so they figure if they make their own people will go see it and they'll make more money then if they just ran a foreign film.

Where in America? Places without the Internet? It's a pretty infamous movie. Even if someone hadn't seen the movie, I bet there's tons of people who could tell you the twist.

Remember though. Yeah, there's a culture here that knows it. But it's not mainstream. They are gonna try to make this shit mainstream.

The fact all the other ones failed to do this sucessfully won't stop em!

How do you make that shit mainstream?

I'm curious, though, how the overall themes of the film will filter through an American director's brain.

Probably by removing any mention of incest and making it a generic revenge thriller.

Funny thing is, a lot of foreign film buffs consider Oldboy to be mainstream to the point that some have called it "entry-level" because of how popular it is.

Yeah, one of those foreign film-buffs is my SO.

It's a drama movie with some good action bits.

If i come across a copy of it, i'll give it a look.

It's on Netflix streaming, if you have access to Netflix.

I'd say it's famous in certain circles. Like film buffs or fans of extreme cinema. But I don't think your average joe knows about it.

Although hopefully with Stoker more people will know about Park Chan-wook.
