I don't tumblr, so I don't really care there, but on AO3 it's a total abuse of the system. I use the tags to select the fics I want to read, not to learn about the authors random ~feels~. It hogs room on the page without adding a single useful thing to learn more about the story. It makes me really wonder if the author really cares if people to read her story, or if she's just using the archive as a friending meme.

I agree about AO3. I believe the admins have actually said something about this somewhere and yet I still see it :| I wouldn't be surprised if they switched to a system where you need to request a new tag for fandom/pairing to be created and select tags from a drop-down list.

Yes, the admins did say something. They said it was totally ok for people to use the tags as they wish and that it didn't cause any problem.

My mistake then. Even so, for organizational purposes a set number of tags would still be nice.

I totally agree on AO3. Using tags for added content that doesn't get sent forward with the post itself is good on Tumblr, but on AO3 it's just annoying and missing the point.

Yeah, that's incredibly annoying. Though I don't know if it's the tags themsleves or the contents. Basically, author, I don't give a fuck about your feelings or your opinions on your own damn fic, just give me the story (and keep that shit for your LJ/DW if you must).

This. There are so many fics that have shit in the tags that should be in the author's note and the tags could actually be helpful. But no. Let's put a whole treatise in the tags so that they take up half the page :/
