Uh... do you mean their surnames? I didn't even realize that was not normal in other countries, because here IRL it is weird if one of them does NOT change their surname. It is becoming more acceptable gradually, but if this was squicking me, I would've been squicked by ninety percent of my married friends.

I think at this point in the U.S. it's normal either way, but even twenty years ago people were assuming my parents were divorced because they had different last names.

My mom kept her maiden name when she married my dad, but my dad's ex-wife, who'd taken his name when they married, kept his last name after the divorce because all her business stuff was attached to it.

Lead to more than a few hilarious misunderstandings.
