So I occasionaly notice nicknames that sound to me kind of weird because of my language background and sometimes comment on them, and today I understood just how many of those there are on f!s.

thus, in "fingalsanteater" I can only see the word "fingal", which is a highly colloquial word for "bruise" in Russian.

then "supermanda" is again an epic win because of Russian - "manda" is an obscenity which stands for female genitalia.

"ariakas" sounds exactly like an Estonian adjective, although I would probably write it as "arjakas" then.

I've heard Russian spoken for my whole life and never realized that "manda" was a separate word from "mandavoshka" (which my father uses to describe many people).

I'm a US child of Russian-Jewish immigrants. My parents speak Russian to each other and English (my mother) or a Russian-English Mix (my father) to me. I have he unfortunate ability to mimic Russian well enough to sound fluent, except that I am not fluent at all. I can mostly understand Russian, though, even if I can't really speak it.

"elaminator" is only a letter off from "eliminator," and "to eliminate" is a polite way to say "take a shit." Depending on the AYRT's language and where certain words come from, I could see it.

Huh, I didn't realize that. How unfortunate.

Every time I look at my name I think of a lame superhero who's power is laminating things.

Now I somewhat regret my decision...

Ahahah... ^^; If it makes you feel any better, I think most people think of the regular "get rid of/do away with" definition of "eliminate;" I wouldn't have thought of the connection to pooping if the anon hadn't said it. It mostly gave me an impression of killing by laminating xD;

I don't notice these ones but I do notice the math and science references in nicknames - manifolds and the one that's the scientific name for a common crow.

Talking about Fingalseater, I constantly read it as Finmarks eater (Finmark being one of the counties in Norway). Which amuses me.

There are quite a few other users whom I find a Norwegian word in their username, but I can't think of any right now.

"thene" always reminds me of the greek goddess "Athena" which is amusing because thene's picture is of Ponyo so Athena=Ponyo? I am easily amused.

"chardmonster" has always reminded me of Charmander the first gen Pokemon.

"agentc" has always reminded me of "Agent P" as in Perry the Platypus. I like to pretend they're part of the same unit of kickass crime fighters.

actually that is where it originally started (though with the UK English transliteration, Athene), as that is what I was into when I first signed up for AOL when I was 15. It was part of an extravagant six-syllable handle at first OF COURSE and then shrank to the more manageable 'Thene' as time went on.

PONYO WANTS HAM and I guess she's more Aprhodite than Athene? IDK I LIKE MY PONYO ICONS, SHE JUST LOOKS SO HAPPY ALL THE TIME.
