Notes:

Sorry, early today!

Also: I'm not going to officially warn for tongue-in-cheek "triggers" just to provide anyone with a fandom-specific in-joke when there are none in the secret.

Aha this just makes me think of my job, because part of what I do is having to update databases when people change their names. The most fun part? Is explaining to women who are "changing" their names after marriage that they're not actually legally changing their name; it's considered an assumed courtesy. Also, I wish more women would keep their own damn name, because it's a bitch to update and I'd like less work, thanks.

Explain? (Since that is the most fun part, and all!) I know when I got married I had to file paperwork with the court to have my name changed and I got a new social security card with my new name on it... pretty sure it's been legally changed...

I'm sure there are different laws in different places, but where I am, you have to apply for an actual Legal Name Change for it to be considered LEGAL. Here, most women simply show their marriage certificate and get their driver's license, Social Insurance card and Health cards changed, which is an Assumed Name Change and does not actually LEGALLY change anything. I work for a government agency, so we have to make the distinction very clear when we're changing information in our database and determine what kind of information we need the applicant to submit.

Ahh, I see! Thanks for explaining! I had to jump through all kinds of hoops so I'm guessing it's different in my state, but who knows. I work for the government too but luckily for me I don't have to update databases like that (I bet it's a pain in the ass).

I meant to say state/country, I have no idea where you're from, didn't mean to be rude if you're non-US, sorry!
