Am I the only one who really liked the RSE storyline? :'(

And I agree about the design. The geography is beautiful.

I liked it, but it doesn't need to be done over again. Plus I can't get through it without laughing at Team Magma/Aqua's sheer idiocy at certain points anymore.

Plus it'd be really neat to see the aftermath of Kyogre/Groudon's being unleashed on the region. They couldn't do it in the originals because GBA, but there's got to have been some land shifting going on that would be neat to poke around in a sequel.

I don't know what you mean by "doesn't need to be done over again". None of them NEED to. Gen II had a pretty bland storyline imo but they still remade those (for which I'm glad since I adore Johto).

I just really want to play through Hoenn with contemporary battle mechanics and beautiful graphics, tbh. It's not even that much about the plot, though I did like it. The plot is less exciting once you've already done it, no matter how good it was to begin with.

Because it was already really good once.

FR/LG disappointed me in a lot of ways. One of them being that it reminded me how shallow RBY's plot was. You could sequence break everything and it wouldn't matter one jot. You'd understand just as well as someone who played through. And they didn't really update anything except revamping the graphics and mechanics.

HG/SS were also somewhat disappointing, because in the original games you get to a certain point and you can go any which way you want, so the level curve is awful. They didn't fix that, either. (All it would've taken is closing off the eastern gate house in Ecruteak until you covered Olivine and Cianwood Gyms.) I'm replaying SS and I'm struggling to raise my team before Clair, because there's no more trainers and no real rebattle potential.

Given the way Gamefreak does remakes--not fixing the little flaws in the originals--it makes me...worry, for an RSE remake. What flaws about those games do I not remember/overlook because of the hardware it's made on? I want to keep overlooking them, because they are good games now for the system they were on. The same games again updated to 3DS might not be as good, because Gamefreak doesn't really change much of anything about their remakes.

They don't have to stick to any of the little flaws at all if they make sequels though, and we'd get to re-explore Hoenn too.

Huh? What is that supposed to mean? If you're insinuating that I don't get it because I obviously haven't played the games, well then, you are wrong; I have played through at least one of all of the duos that have been released, including remakes.

I get where you're coming from with level grinding for Clair. That said, and this is especially true for Kanto, I think people kind of wanted it to be the same. For many people, that's the point. I don't really see anything wrong with that. I would actually like it if they fixed the "little flaws" but I don't see that as a huge necessity.

SS is my favorite game to date, regardless. I just love it.

The only "flaw" I can think of off the top of my head is that many of the Pokemon have typings and movesets that did not correspond well with their stats before the phys/spe split of Gen IV, and this is especially true with Hoenn. That would of course be auto-fixed with current battling mechanics.

Also part of it for me is that it's a game about progressive strategy, not so much plot. For me to get into the plot on a really deep level would require a lot of suspension of disbelief. Not to say I don't enjoy that part, because I do, but if I were reading a story that went like the plot of a Pokemon game I'd get really bored. I play the games probably more for the strategy and RPG element than anything else. I also love the landscapes and music.

Now that I think about it, maybe the reason I liked the RSE story the best was I actually felt somewhat drawn into it with the weather changing thing. It was like "look, this is actually a big deal!!" rather than just this vague, not-concrete "must defeat the big baddie" thing. BW2 did kind of do that too to an extent.

I think I'd get more into the story part of the game if they changed some parts of their overused formula. Without that, it's basically about battling, for me.

Pretty sure what AYRT meant by that was that you could challenge a lot of the Kanto gyms out of the intended order and the story would make the same amount of sense.

I think you can only challenge Koga and Sabrina out of order?

Anyway, nothing wrong with that imo...it's more realistic to me that way, if challenging gyms is a thing that doesn't have to be linear. The only hitch is with levels and making gyms roughly the same level of challenging for each.

I was saying that even if you skip certain events when you played RBY (for instance, it was entirely possible to skip the Game Corner if you just bought a Pokedoll and used it on the Marowak ghost) you'd still get the same sense of 'plot' anyone who didn't would, since RBY's 'plot' boiled down to 'Rockets steal and sell Pokemon and are bad.'

I can't actually think of any glaring flaws in RSE, which is good, but before HGSS came out I wouldn't have been able to remember the level curve after the Radio Tower sucking, so I am not sure it means much. Maybe all the Surfing would get annoying? No idea.

I play em for both the plot and the mechanics, so things on both sides can somewhat frustrate.

All fears aside, I'd totally get an RSE remake or sequel equally, just I think a sequel would feel better overall and maybe let them break the mold a bit.

hmm, well, I would much rather have a remake to be able to have what would feel to me at this point more like a full experience. But to each their own, obv.

I loved it, it's my favourite!

But I don't particularly care for a remake. If one came out I wouldn't play it because remakes don't make sense to me. Make new games! Not RSE 2.0

I am also okay with that. It doesn't hurt me for them to make a remake lol. Go with both, make everything!
