You'd think eventually (depending on when the rivalry started) the growth of facial hair would be bred out of the race.

But maybe (and I'm kinda drawing on parallels with Vulcans here), maybe some things can't be bred out of the race and the rituals and ceremonies are a way of acknowledging that and overcoming it?

Or, oooooooh! It is basically bred out of the race except for a few outliers. That could be interesting.

And those outliers get so picked on :( Oh man. This brings a whole new aspect to Arwen/Aragorn. She would live in a culture where Aragorn is super, super ugly. And Aragorn was probably so picked on. Poor baby.
