I'm hearing The Mountain Goats for the first time. I like this song. I don't think I could handle a whole album of this though.

Mountain Goats are absolutely great but they do get kind of intense a lot of the time and they really do draw all their songs from pretty much the same musical palate so it can get samey. Still though I'd definitely recommend checking out Talahassee or Sunset Tree, because they're great albums, and Darnielle is a great lyricist at dealing with complex themes and a great songwriter. They're a really good band.

They're in their second song (about Toad from Super Mario Bros.), and I'm already kind of over it. But I might not mind something showing up on shuffle every now and again.

Yeah sorry if I'm kind of freaking out at you about them, I just really like them and I've been listening to them a ton lately.

I think to some extent it is a thing where you really like it or it's just not your thing - if you're not into extremely literate, clever lyrics dealing with serious emotional themes combined with poppy/folky rock songwriting (or however you want to describe their musical oeuvre), it's not your thing. But (I just tuned into their stream for the song before this so I don't know what they've played) (I'm not really into the whole vlogbrothers thing) but maybe give a couple other songs a listen on YT or something? I mean, or not, it's totally up to you, if you just don't like them that's cool too.
