I would be more likely to use A03 or another fanfiction site if they had a category for my favorite fandoms, except they don't. Mainly because the fandoms I frequent are a bit older. FF.net takes care of that problem because of it's large variety.

You can post works to the AO3 in new (older) fandoms! Just tag the work with the name of the fandom, and that tag will exist--it will take a few days for the wranglers to sort the fandom tag into the correct media type and make it filterable, but you can add a new tag.

Just because there's no fic in a fandom at the AO3 now doesn't mean you can't post works for that fandom.

Yep! There's a fandom on there that only has one fic, written by me. There was no category/tag for it until I made one.
