yeah, you're a snob. I don't like reading on the Pit but there's some great stuff that's only available there, particularly from older fandoms. Even recently, I had one very talented fandom friend who was primarily posting to the Pit because she had been only an occasional lurker in fandom for a long time, and had only just started writing and making friends - she hadn't heard of AO3. FFN is a gateway. A lot of good people have started out there, or used it as a stepping stone between other forms of fandom. I started on BBSes and mailing lists myself but it was on FFN that I met people who got me into journal-fandom. Remember when LJ still had invite codes? The thing about the "good" parts of fandom is that they're a bit of a private treehouse - most people haven't heard of Dreamwidth or AO3, and even Livejournal wasn't included in this year's Technorati survey, but the Pit is much more accessible.
